Director's Note

Well... Here we are

I am so excitied for this evening's performance of Give and Take. It has been such a long journey to get to this place. When Paraphrase initially began no one ever could have imagined us ever making it past our first show... let alone to our THIRD season. It brings me to tears to think about all of the people who have supported us along the way and how much faith people have put in this company and in me.

Creating "Give and Take" was a strangely emotional process for me. In this production I got the chance to re-visit numbers from Little Shop of Horrors and Addams Family: A New Musical. Going in and initally choosing these numbers was so strange... I hadn't heard these songs since we closed each show and listening to them again brought back so many happy memories. When the directing process came it was strange how nostalgic I felt about these numbers and how touching they were to me.

A director doesn't usually get a "second chance" to direct something and do the things he's always wanted to do. That's exactly what this show was. I got to re-imagine numbers and do some things that I never thought I would have the chance to do. Although I had to scale down my ideas quite a bit (since Paperwing can't accomidate a fly system or a full scale rotating stage) I was finally able to toy around with some things that I've always wanted to do. I really hope you enjoy a small peice of my imagination!

I would like to take a moment to thank my cast and crew from not only this show but every show Paraphrase has put on. Without them I would not be where I am today and Paraphrase wouldn't be having it's third season. I would also like to thank Paper Wing for providing this space and constant encouragement and support. Also, thank you to the Forest Theater Guild and Yvonne Hillard for believing in what we do at Paraphrase and not letting our age get in the way of creating beautiful art.

I hope that all of you enjoy this show and that you get a good idea of what we're about here at Paraphrase and that you join all of the people who have supported us through it all!

Enjoy The Show!
